Govan Community Project provides a range of holistic services for people seeking asylum, refugees and vulnerable migrants in the Greater Govan area of Glasgow, including the provision of a monthly community meal.

You will be responsible for facilitating the delivery of our monthly community meals which we host at the Salvation Army hall opposite our Govan office. You will facilitate a group of chef volunteers to cook together in the hall’s kitchen to prepare a 3-course hot meal using fresh, healthy produce that is culturally appropriate for approximately 70 drop-in guests. You will liaise with other staff members and volunteers to coordinate the hall set-up and safe, hygienic organisation of the day (set-up, serving, and clearing-up). You will ensure the meals are a safe, inclusive, welcoming environment for members of the local community and encourage intercultural understanding and reduce social isolation.

*Our meals are currently on Wednesdays, 12.30pm-1.30pm, with the full day lasting 9am-4pm. Outwith meal weeks, you will liaise with the community chef volunteers to plan the menu and purchase ingredients. From July 2026, some flexibility will be required over working hours to meet the needs of the project - i.e. on weeks when meals run, you will likely need to work over 7 hours to buy ingredients/liaise with volunteers, on other weeks you will work less hours.

Our ideal candidate will have experience of working and/or volunteering with vulnerable people and those going through the asylum process, and an awareness of trauma-informed practice. You will have experience of facilitating a group of community volunteer chefs, and understand the principles of social justice, empowerment and integration issues. Alongside confidence in budgeting and monitoring and evaluation methods, you will have excellent time management and interpersonal skills.

This is a great opportunity to join a vibrant, dedicated team working in a diverse community.

Govan Community Project is committed to inclusion and diversity and to building a culture and environment where everyone is appreciated for the unique person they are and we welcome applications from individuals with a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, who have the relevant skills for the role advertised.

We particularly welcome applications from individuals with lived experience of the UK Asylum/Immigration system. We are proud to be a member of the Experts by Experience Employment Network (www.ebeemployment.org.uk), which aims to increase representation of people with lived experience in the charitable sector. Please feel free to use information and resources at https://www.ebeemployment.org.uk/ebe which may help in preparing your job application.
