Role

Do you have a gift for welcoming and supporting people? Are you ready for a new adventure and a meaningful role aligned with the Iona Community’s vision?  Would you like to live on a remote Scottish island, surrounded by beauty and community? If your answer is yes, the following opportunity could be for you.

The Iona Community is seeking to appoint a welcoming and supportive Volunteer Coordinator to join our Abbey team on the Isle of Iona for the 2026 season.

Each year, around 80 volunteers from across the world come to Iona Abbey to live and work in community — helping to offer welcome and hospitality to our international guests. As Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll ensure that every volunteer is supported from the moment they apply until the day they leave.

You’ll oversee recruitment, induction and one-to-one supervision, and work with colleagues to foster a supportive and inclusive community where all can flourish. This is a role for someone who brings both compassion and good organisation.

The Iona Community is an international, ecumenical Christian movement working for peace and justice, the rebuilding of community and the renewal of worship. Living and working on Iona is more than a job; it’s a shared way of life rooted in hope, faith and hospitality.

This post contains an element of regulated work and as such is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and the post-holder will need to be or to become a member of Scotland’s Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme, prior to taking up the post.

Due to the nature of this work, it will NOT be possible to consider candidates who do not already have the right to work in the United Kingdom
