Role
About Granton Information Centre
Granton Information Centre (GIC) has been supporting people in Edinburgh since 1984. We provide free, confidential advice, advocacy and representation, helping individuals and families deal with welfare benefit issues, new claims and appeals, debt and other financial pressures.
Our clients are at the heart of what we do. Alongside appointments at our West Granton Road office, our advisers work from a range of community and GP outreach locations across Edinburgh, helping make advice accessible to people in the communities where they live.
GIC is a busy, established organisation with a strong commitment to high-quality, client-centred advice. We work collaboratively with local partners and are part of wider advice and community networks across Edinburgh. GIC is also an accredited Living Wage Employer.
The opportunity
As GIC continues to develop and strengthen its services, we are looking for new volunteer Management Committee members to help shape the organisation's future. This is an opportunity to contribute your skills and experience to an organisation that has been part of the Edinburgh advice landscape for more than 40 years and whose work makes a practical difference to people facing financial and social challenges.
What will I do?
- Contribute to the strategic direction and good governance of GIC.
- Take part in Management Committee meetings and contribute to informed decision-making.
- Support and appropriately challenge the management team, helping GIC remain effective, sustainable and focused on the needs of the people and communities we serve.
- Use your knowledge, experience and perspective to help GIC continue to develop and improve.
Who are we looking for?
We are keen to hear from people from a wide range of backgrounds who are interested in supporting GIC's work. We would particularly welcome skills, knowledge or experience in areas such as governance, finance, HR, fundraising, community development or advice services. Previous committee experience is not essential.
We particularly value interest from people who know or understand the communities GIC serves and can bring different experiences and perspectives to our Management Committee.
Practical information
This is an unpaid voluntary role. Reasonable expenses can be reimbursed in line with GIC policy.
