Sacro’s Veterans Mentoring Service (VMS) has a new post available to work with veterans in Forth Valley. The service aims to support veterans who have served within the British Armed Forces and find themselves involved in or at risk of becoming involved in Scotland’s justice system.

VMS is an intensive mentoring and one to one support service that is focussed on walking beside veterans, at a time of significant challenge in their lives. The post holder will assist veterans to recognise and develop their life skills including accessing education and employment training, sustaining their tenancies and accommodation, addressing alcohol and substance use and building the confidence to make critical changes in their lives. These critical changes include addressing their offending behaviour, understanding the effects of this on their lives, the lives of their families and friends and the wider community.

The post holder should be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work both as part of a team and independently is required. A lived experience of the military or experience as part of a military lifestyle is essential to the post. Experience of collaborative working, advocacy and support is essential. A commitment to Sacro’s value base is crucial, as this type of work can be challenging. Experience of working with individual involved in the justice system is essential. 

Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) will be a requirement for this post.

A valid driving licence and access to a car is essential for this post.
