Role

Join GCIL and Make a Difference!

At the Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living (GCIL), we empower disabled people to live independently, make their own choices, and participate fully in society.

As a disabled-people-led organisation, we place lived experience at the heart of everything we do. Our services help people gain the information, skills, and confidence they need to live fulfilling, self-directed lives and we’re proud of the real, lasting impact this makes in our communities.

Why Work With Us?

  • Empower Others: You’ll play a vital role helping people recruit and manage their own Personal Assistants (PAs), giving them genuine control over their support.
  • Community Impact: Every day you’ll help break down barriers, strengthen independence, and build inclusion.
  • Autonomy and Growth: Manage your own workload, shape local recruitment activity, and build professional relationships across communities.
  • Learning and Development: You’ll have access to training, support, and opportunities to develop your skills in a values-led environment.

As an Independent Living Advisor (Recruitment Specialist), you will:

  • Meet or speak with supported people to understand their requirements and translate these into clear, person-centred job descriptions and vacancy adverts.
  • Provide guidance on advertising roles, safe recruitment practices (references, PVG checks, contracts), and inclusive approaches.
  • Support people to plan and carry out their own recruitment processes, preparing interview questions, structuring interviews, and making confident choices.
  • Offer practical help to those who need assistance with digital platforms or accessible formats.
  • Develop partnerships with local colleges, job centres, training providers, and community groups to promote PA opportunities.
  • Represent GCIL at local recruitment fairs and information events, raising awareness of the role of Personal Assistants.
  • Support adviser colleagues in delivering general SDS advice and guidance when required.

This is a unique opportunity to demonstrate creativity within your role, we expect you to really get to understand the needs of our community and to translate this into fun, creative and upbeat adverts!

In order to be successful in this role you should have:

  • Experience supporting or advising people in any setting (community, care, employment, or customer service).
  • Strong communication skills – written, verbal and listening.
  • Confident IT skills and experience using online communication or promotional platforms.
  • The ability to plan, organise, and manage a varied workload independently.
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
  • A person-centred, respectful and inclusive approach.
  • A flexible, proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Confidence delivering information to groups or individuals.
  • An understanding of inclusive, fair, and person-centred recruitment practices (or willingness to learn).
  • The ability to translate people’s needs into clear, practical information or actions.

It would be great if you had:

  • Experience supporting recruitment or employment processes.
  • Knowledge of Self Directed Support (SDS) or Personal Assistant roles.
  • Experience building partnerships or community links.
  • Knowledge of local job markets or community networks.
  • A creative approach to problem solving.
