Role

Help Shape Stirling’s Economy – Join STEP’s Board

Be Part of Something Bigger

Do you want to play a leading role in shaping the future of Stirling’s economy?

STEP is looking for new Non-Executive Directors to join our Board. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your skills, experience, and ideas to an organisation that is central to business growth and community resilience across the region.

About STEP

STEP is Central Scotland’s leading business support organisation. We were founded more than 40 years ago to protect and steward a legacy gift of land and buildings for the Stirling community. Today, we are a major economic player, supporting over 1,000 businesses annually, creating and safeguarding hundreds of jobs and reinvesting our surpluses for long-term community benefit.

Our purpose is clear: to support small businesses, reinvest surpluses for community benefit, and drive local economic resilience.

We deliver this mission through three interconnected business pillars:

1. Business Space – providing over 120,000 sq. ft. of high-quality, flexible workspace, offices, studios and event venues, underpinning the growth of hundreds of local businesses and entrepreneurs.

2. Business Support – delivering Business Gateway services and specialist growth programmes across Stirling and beyond, helping new and growing businesses to innovate, access funding, embrace digital, and scale their ambitions.

3. HR and Organisational Development Services – offering commercial HR services, accredited ILM leadership programmes and executive coaching, building the skills and confidence of local workforces and leaders.

By combining these three pillars, STEP is more than a landlord, trainer, or advice service. We are an anchor institution at the heart of Stirling’s economy, championing inclusive growth, innovation, and resilience.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking Non-Executive Directors who share our passion for small business, community wealth building, and Stirling’s economic future.

We welcome applications from people with professional or lived experience in areas such as HR, property, marketing, business, law, finance, community development, sustainability, or public policy. Just as importantly, we want to hear from candidates with fresh perspectives and sector-specific knowledge that could add value to our work.

What matters most is that you bring:

• Strategic thinking and independent judgment

• A collaborative and inclusive approach

• Commitment to STEP’s purpose and values

Why join STEP’s Board?

As a STEP Director, you will:

• Provide independent oversight and strategic challenge

• Contribute to shaping future investments and services

• Help us expand our networks and partnerships across Scotland and beyond

• Be part of a values-driven organisation reinvesting for long-term community benefit

Board roles are non-executive and voluntary, with reasonable expenses reimbursed.

Term of Office: 2 years, with the possibility of re-appointment for a further 2 years up to a maximum of 6.
