Make a Real Difference to the Tourette Syndrome Community in Scotland

Tourette Scotland (Charity No. SC021851) is the leading charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Tourette Syndrome across Scotland since 1994. Our aims are to raise awareness, provide support and information, and advocate for the rights and needs of people living with TS. We strive to create a more understanding and inclusive society for our community.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our Board of Trustees. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your skills and passion to help shape the future of Tourette Scotland and make a tangible difference to the lives of many.

We are committed to being an inclusive organisation open to all. We welcome applications from individuals from any background, experience or skillsets that can add value to the organisation and help to develop a diverse board representing a wide range of experience and perspectives.

We are particularly interested in individuals with skills or experience in the following areas, although applications from any background are welcome:

  • Financial/Treasurer Support: Experience in financial management, accounting, or supporting the work of a treasurer.
  • Fundraising Coordination: Skills in developing and implementing fundraising strategies and events. Experience of funding applications
  • Policy and Strategic Oversight: Ability to contribute to the strategic direction of the charity and ensure good governance.
  • Advocacy: Experience or interest in campaigning and raising awareness of important issues.
  • Research: Knowledge or experience in research methodologies relevant to Tourette Syndrome.

Also individuals with professional experience in any of the areas below:

  • Human resources
  • Digital transformation and IT
  • Social Media
  • Health and social care
  • Fundraising and communications
  • Lived experience of caring
  • Business development
  • Social enterprises
  • Group and activity event organisation skills
  • Training skills
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Administration skills

The above list is not exhaustive. Please get in touch if you have any skills or experience that will add value to the charity. The most important quality we are looking for is a passion for raising awareness and improving the lives of people living with TS.  

The minimum time commitment for a Trustee will be four committee meetings annually, which are held either in person or virtually, and attendance at our Annual General Meeting (AGM). There is also optional attendance at monthly online Action Plan meetings.

There are also optional opportunities to get more involved with the work of the charity, including:

  • Participating in fundraising activities.
  • Assisting with Tourette Syndrome awareness-raising sessions.
  • Helping to facilitate online and in-person support groups.
  • Undertaking other volunteer opportunities throughout the year that align with your skills and availability.

We are looking for individuals who possess the following personal skills and qualities:

  • A willingness to accept the responsibilities of a trustee and to always act in the best interests of Tourette Scotland.
  • The ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise independent judgement, and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to actively participate in discussions.
  • A strong personal commitment to equality and inclusion.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for the aims of Tourette Scotland and the community we serve.

These are voluntary positions, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in line with our policy.

Successful candidates will be required to obtain a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) certificate. Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided to all new trustees.
