Self-employed Community Project Manager - Glasgow

Parents For Future Scotland
Part time
Remote: based in, or near to Glasgow
3.5 days per week on a self-employed basis at £200 per day for 31 weeks (term time). Provisionally up until 31st March 2026, but may be extended.
Closing 17 August 2025
Advertised from 31 July 2025

Role

Are you passionate about making a difference to the climate crisis? Do you have insight on, or experience of, how climate and social justice issues intersect? Are you passionate about mobilising and empowering local communities - especially those whose voices are least often heard? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

We are particularly keen to hear from people who experience marginalisation and minoritisation, or those who are often excluded from decision-making processes. For example: people of colour; people from working-class backgrounds; people from LGBTQ and migrant communities; care-experienced young people; and people with disabilities.

About us

Parents for Future Scotland is a grassroots group of parents seeking to make climate action the norm among all parents in Scotland. In the past year we have become a charity, doubled our membership and influenced decisions at a local and national level.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone who can co-ordinate a Clean Air and Wellbeing programme for schools in Glasgow, and set up 5 bike buses. You will preferably have experience of programme delivery and an interest in active travel, but above all else we want you to be passionate about inspiring others to make change happen and help grow our movement of parents. While this is a time-limited post, we hope to secure further funding to ensure that you can build and grow with us. We are a small team, so your contributions will make a big difference.

Main tasks

This is a front-facing role that requires co-ordination of a clean air and wellbeing programme for 10 schools in Glasgow and supporting parents to set up 5 school bike buses in Glasgow. You will also be required to support the movement as a whole to grow and thrive.

Clean air and wellbeing programme

Through our education packs and parent talks, you will increase childrens’/parents’ knowledge on air pollution and ways to combat it in 10 Glasgow schools that have been recruited by us. You will work closely with parents and school staff to get active travel initiatives off the ground.

  • Support the roll-out of our clean air and wellbeing educational resources in schools
  • Deliver parent talks in all schools in different formats throughout the year
  • Train volunteers to deliver parent workshops - tailoring to suit the school’s needs
  • Gather a group of parents in each school who will work with you to create change
  • Work with teachers and headteachers in the school to publicise and celebrate changes
  • Buddy up schools taking part in the programme to share ideas and celebrate achievements
  • In schools where parents often walk to school, you will work with cycling organisations in the city to increase the use of bikes amongst parents and children
  • Help organise an event for schools and elected officials at Glasgow City Chambers along with the Clean Air and Wellbeing Programme Manager
  • Deliver talks and workshops on bike buses
  • Share bike bus resources, including access to cycling and bike maintenance training
  • Network with cycling charities at events and liaise with them in WhatsApp groups
  • Establish bike bus buddies to support the leaders of fledgling bike buses with risk assessments etc.
  • Partner schools that already have bike buses with those that are setting them up

Other expectations/skills/experience:

  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to oversee a project to completion
  • A flair for creativity - in particular, use of canva
  • Ability to use the written and spoken word to clearly and accurately convey a strong message, while tailoring messaging for different audiences
  • Excellent facilitation skills
  • Confidence in working across social media platforms e.g. Instagram, Facebook and Blue Sky
  • Networking with other climate organisations in Glasgow
  • Supporting existing members of Parents For Future Scotland to develop their skills/climate justice perspectives: taking part in WhatsApp discussions, sharing work across social media and other networks and running members’ meetings online once a quarter in the evening.
  • Attending team meetings every 6 weeks and develop a broad overview of the strategic direction of the charity
  • Most of the work will take part during normal working hours, but some evening and weekend work will be required, so flexibility is key.
  • Forging strong relationships with people, inspiring them to make changes
  • Empathising with and exploring the challenges parents may face when travelling to and from school in Glasgow - identifying how to motivate them to change
  • Active travel experience - an avid walker, cyclist, runner or user of public transport (preferred)
  • Knowledge of how climate and social justice issues are interlinked and the ability to work with people at all stages of awareness on this.

What we offer

  • 3.5 days per week on a self-employed basis at £200 per day for 31 weeks (term time) until 31 March 2025
  • A flexible working environment, ideal for juggling the stresses of being a working parent if necessary (non-parents welcome too, as long as you can think about the unique challenges faced by parents)
  • Working from home
  • The ability to shape the direction of a fledgling organisation with your skills/expertise
  • Support from a Clean Air and Wellbeing programme manager who has successfully delivered the programme in Glasgow and can support you throughout
  • Possibility of work beyond this contract through future funding applications
  • This is a hands-on role so you will need to be within travelling distance of Glasgow
