Role

Member of our Board of Trustees – ideally with charity Governance experience

SupportED is Scotland’s leading and fastest-growing community eating disorder charity, providing peer support through Support Groups and one-to-one Befriending for individuals with eating disorders, as well as for parents, carers, and families. Our services are volunteer-led, with most of our volunteers having lived experience of eating disorder recovery.

The demand for our services is increasing rapidly. With public services stretched, we provide a vital source of support. Our Support Groups operate both in person and online, ensuring that help remains accessible to those who need it most.

As we focus on expanding our services across Scotland, we are now seeking a new Trustee to join our Board, ideally with experience of charity Governance.

Why Join Us?

By becoming a Trustee, you will play a key role in shaping the future of SupportED, helping us to grow and therefore to reach and support more people on their recovery journey.

We have a strong, committed and experienced Board that works closely as a team, so we’re looking for someone who is collaborative, hands-on, and willing to contribute both strategically and, occasionally, operationally.

The Board meets six times a year, two of which are face to face in Glasgow or Stirling (half or full day), with 4 of our meetings being online (weekday evenings, duration two hours).

Given our current growth phase, Trustees should expect to commit approximately 3-5 hours per month, occasionally more. Trustee terms are for three years, potentially renewable twice (ie nine years max).

To learn more about the legal responsibilities of trustees, you can refer to OSCR’s Guidance and Good Practice for Charity Trustees.

Join us as a Trustee

SupportED is seeking a committed individual to join our Board of Trustees and help guide our charity as we continue to grow and make an impact. As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in the leadership and governance of our organisation, ensuring we remain true to our mission and values.

We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds and professional experience — whether you have led a charity, held an executive position, or have skills gained from working in business, non-profits, or the public sector. Your perspectives and expertise will help shape the future of our work.

Trustee Role & Responsibilities

As a Trustee, you will:

  • Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making at Board level.
  • Ensure the charity complies with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Help monitor performance and risk, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Act as a champion for the charity’s aims, values, and beneficiaries.
  • Support the leadership team in delivering sustainable, high-impact work.

As a Trustee with experience of charity Governance, you will also ideally chair our Governance sub-group and report to the Board at each meeting on Governance matters.

What’s in It for You?

By joining SupportED, you will:

  • Make a direct impact on a major health issue in Scotland.
  • Be part of a fast-growing, highly respected charity.
  • Work with a friendly, supportive, and professional team.
  • Gain valuable experience in charity leadership, management and strategy development.
  • Use your skills to drive real change in the lives of those affected by eating disorders.

Application notes

If you are interested, please email Michael Brown (Co-chair) at michael.brown@supportedscotland.org, outlining how your experience could support SupportED. The next step will be a video call with our two Co-chairs at a mutually convenient time.
