    Communications Officer for the Scottish Greens Parliamentary Group

    • : 30 hours per week full time (Please note, the Scottish Greens Parliamentary operates a four-day working week). This role involves occasional evening and weekend working, including providing out of hours cover on a rotational basis.

    Role

    The Scottish Green MSPs are looking for an experienced Communications Officer to join their team providing communications and media support to the seven Green MSPs and their regional offices. This is a varied role in a fast paced environment, directly contributing to the group’s communications output across the full range of channels, including print, broadcast and social media, and digital output.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Producing materials that effectively convey the Scottish Greens Group’s aims to the general public and media.

    ● Keeping up to date with current media developments.

    ● Building and maintaining relationships with media stakeholders

    ● Producing high quality press releases, articles, social media content and other written materials

    ● Contributing to the development of communications campaign plans, and delivering them as part of the group communications team

    Following all media outlets to capture relevant developments as they happen.

    ● Maintaining media monitoring systems to support group communications

    ● Contributing to group monitoring and evaluation of social and digital output

    Identifying potential media opportunities and acting as media contact.

    ● Organising and arranging interviews and media events

    ● Preparing MSPs for media appearances and providing pre-event briefings

    ● Developing creative new engagement methods for social media accounts

    About You - Person specification

    Essential

    ● Experience of working in a communications role in politics, campaigning, or the media

    ● Ability to foster good working relationships with confidence to understand how the media world operates.

    ● Experience in designing creative communications over a range of formats on different media platforms.

    ● Ability to work flexibly and creatively in a fast paced environment, often to tight deadlines

    ● Flexibility using relevant IT skills and writing styles, covering both traditional and newer forms of media.

    ● Be sympathetic to the aims and objectives of the Green Parliamentary Group of MSPs in carrying out their parliamentary duties.

    Desirable

    ● A good understanding of the Scottish media environment

    ● Experience of designing and delivering digital campaigns

    ● Knowledge of Scottish Parliamentary processes
