The Rapid Re-accommodation Welcome Centre provides emergency accommodation with support to anyone who would otherwise be rough sleeping in Edinburgh. Following an incredible, lifesaving winter season starting in 2025, the Welcome Centre will continue operating until 31 March 2027, at least initially.

We are looking for a Night Shift Project Worker to provide care and support to individuals who may otherwise be sleeping rough in Edinburgh. As part of a dedicated team, you will demonstrate compassion and respect while supporting people experiencing homelessness and vulnerability.

Under the direction of the Night Shift Team Leader, you will carry out a range of duties throughout the night. These include supporting volunteers serving meals, monitoring access to the Welcome Centre, managing reception, responding to guest enquiries, handling telephone calls, and maintaining accurate records. You will also conduct guest welfare checks at designated times during your shift.

The role involves 12-hour night shifts (7:45 pm to 8:00 am), working on a fortnightly rolling rota. The successful candidate must secure membership of the PVG Scheme.

The post is a fixed-term contract ending on 31st March 2027.

We are looking for candidates with the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Experience in working with the vulnerable
  • An understanding of mental health and addiction issues
  • Ability to deal appropriately with challenging behaviour
  • An SVQ level 3 in Care/Promoting Independence or equivalent is desirable
  • Administrative skills and experience in the use of Microsoft Office packages, especially Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to respond to a changing environment
  • Ability to maintain clear & accurate records

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship.

As Bethany is a Christian organisation, this post carries an Occupational Requirement in line with the Equality Act 2010. Applicants should have and be able to evidence an active Christian faith and commitment.
