Outreach Support (Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Service)

- On site: Dalkeith. Travel throughout East Lothian and Midlothian, including operating from other venues, will be required.
- £35,869 - £37,922
- 21 hours per week. The contract will run until 31st March 2028 (fixed term contract). Extension of the contract will be dependent on continuation funding. The post will involve regular evening and occasional weekend working. Post holders must be able to travel across East Lothian and Midlothian.

Role
Midlothian Young Peoples Advice Service (MYPAS) promotes the health and wellbeing of young people across East Lothian, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders and currently focuses on working in the areas of mental health and substance use. MYPAS is a community-based organisation with charitable status and based in Dalkeith.
MYPAS is looking to recruit a part-time Outreach Support Worker to work within our young people’s drug and alcohol service.
The main aim of the post is to improve health and wellbeing among young people (aged 16 to 21) in Midlothian and East Lothian who are financially disadvantaged (homeless, unemployed) and/or experience poor mental health and substance use.
The service will offer:
- Individual support for young people
- Open access drop-ins at young people's homeless accommodation venues and further informal visits to additional housing provision.
- Assertive outreach with young people recovering from near fatal overdose
- Staff training and support
- Support for families
There is no specific qualification required; however, the post holder will be expected to be educated to degree level. This should be in a relevant field such as Health, Community Education, Social Work or Education, but significant equivalent experience will also be considered. The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary service and work effectively with other agencies in partnership settings. This post will require regular evening and occasional weekend work.
