Role

Neurological Alliance of Scotland

The Neurological Alliance of Scotland is the umbrella body for neurological conditions charities in Scotland with around 60 charities from across Scotland and the UK. We also have several industry members. In partnership with our members, we inform policy, raise awareness and support improvements in services. Our vision is that everyone affected by neurological conditions in Scotland - including carers and those who support them - can access high-quality, timely, and holistic care and support at every stage of their life, regardless of where in Scotland they live.

The Alliance is overseen by trustees with day-to-day operations managed by a Programme Director. We are recruiting for a freelance Membership & Engagement Officer to support our work.  

The Role

This is an exciting and challenging role to support our charity membership and lead on our social media and communications activities.  

The person will be proactive, warm-natured, highly motivated with excellent communication and project management skills and an attention to detail for a varied workload. This role will involve being a central point of contact for our charity members, dealing with outreach and onboarding new members, billing, queries and maintaining the database of contacts. They will also be responsible for certain communications activities including our monthly newsletter and maintaining our Facebook and BlueSky accounts as well as drafting briefings and supporting our campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

Membership

  • Be a central point of contact for our charity members
  • Research and reach out to potential new charity members
  • Welcome new members through the newsletter and social media, and welcome packs
  • Draft email updates to members as required
  • Administer our annual membership subscriptions and track payments
  • Maintain a list of current members, including contact information and various mailing lists

Communications

  • Draft the monthly newsletter 
  • Draft and schedule posts for our Facebook and Bluesky accounts
  • Deal with any newsletter related emails and support members to share news and reports with us
  • Create infographics for use on our social media, website and newsletter
  • Social media analytics
  • Draft research
  • Draft briefings for both internal and external use

Website

  • Ensure all members have their logo on our website
  • •Check all links on the NAoS website are live and remove any that are defunct
  • Upload reports, newsletters and minutes to the website
  • Occasional website copy editing
  • Track engagement on our website

Events

  • Assist with preparing for all events including the AGM, Members’ Meetings and other events as required
  • Take minutes at all Trustee Meetings, Members’ Meetings, Policy Group meetings and the AGM
  • Occasionally attend external events as a NAoS rep

Campaigning

  • Be a central part of any campaigning we do, supporting and liaising with working groups

Operational activity

  • Support policy and campaigning as directed by Programme Director
  • Support the running of the policy subgroups as required
  • Reviewing work

Person specification

Essential:

  • Self-motivated, organised and flexible – able to manage multiple projects and priorities and able to work independently
  • Excellent communication, writing, design and interpersonal skills
  • Confident dealing with a wide range of stakeholders and able to represent NAoS at the occasional external meeting

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the health landscape in Scotland
  • Experience liaising with multiple stakeholder groups
