Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioner (Employability)
Change Mental Health
Full time, Part time
On site: Dumfries & Galloway
£24,521
3 x 35 hours per week and 1 x 21 hours per week. Permanent.
Closing 18 September 2026
Advertised from 2 September 2026

Role

Change Mental Health is looking for four Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioners to join our employability-focused services in Dumfries & Galloway.

You’ll support people experiencing poor mental health or mental illness to build confidence, resilience and practical skills, helping them move towards volunteering, further education and employment while improving their wider mental health and wellbeing.

About the role

You’ll work directly with people through a mix of 1:1 support, group activities and community engagement, helping individuals identify achievable goals and develop personal plans that reflect what matters to them.

You’ll help create welcoming and inclusive environments, build connections with community organisations and local services, and support people to develop the confidence, skills and strategies they need to take their next steps.

We’re recruiting to:

  • Three full-time posts – 35 hours per week
  • One part-time post – 21 hours per week

Our services operate across Dumfries & Galloway, so flexibility to travel within the region is important. One of the full-time posts will have a particular requirement to work flexibly across different locations, and applicants should be comfortable with community-based working and travel as service needs require.

Essential

  • Experience facilitating groups, peer-support activities or community-based support.
  • Experience providing structured 1:1 support and contributing to personal or outcome-focused plans.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, professional relationships.
  • Ability to manage your own workload while working effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centred, strengths-based and recovery-focused practice.
  • Understanding of risk assessment and safe decision-making.
  • SVQ Level 2 Social Services and Healthcare (Adults) or willingness to work towards this if required.
  • SSSC registration, or willingness to register if required.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting people to develop employability skills or progress towards volunteering, education or employment.
  • Knowledge of local community resources, services and referral pathways.
  • Experience supporting people affected by trauma, social isolation or complex circumstances.

What we offer

  • 37 days’ annual leave (pro rata)
  • Two paid Mental Wellbeing Days
  • Enhanced sick pay and leave entitlements
  • Professional development, including funded opportunities
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Blue Light Card eligibility
  • Support for flexible working and work-life balance

Hours are typically worked Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, although occasional evening or weekend working may be required.

If you’re passionate about mental health and helping people build the confidence and skills to move towards their goals, we’d love to hear from you.
