Communications & Engagement Lead

Role

Govan HELP is embarking on an exciting phase of development this year, and we are looking for a skilled, intuitive and creative storyteller to share our purpose, impact and campaigns.

The Communications & Engagement Lead will develop and execute our existing communications strategy, manage the brand and identify opportunities to promote and position Govan HELP as a leading place-based family support charity.

The role will include sharing our news, mission and services on digital channels, as well as leading PR, accessible communications and print marketing. The postholder will work with the whole team to identify marketing, brand and press opportunities, execute agreed communications activity for partners and funders, illustrate the expertise of Govan HELP, and share the impact our support has for the community in Govan.

Main Responsibilities

Social Media

  •  Identifying story opportunities for social channels
  • Planning, creating and prioritising posts
  • Developing and growing engagement with existing channels
  • Identifying new social media channels for Govan HELP
  • Manage comments and enquires across social channels, in liaison with the wider team
  • Support fundraising activity, funded projects and corporate partnerships on socials

Content Creation

  • Create video and photography for digital channels
  • Copywriting for marketing materials and digital channels
  • Proficiency in Canva to create materials such as posters, graphics, and basic video editing

Website

  • Manage website updates and development using Squarespace
  • Identify and write news stories for the website
  •  Maintain SEO, accessibility and imagery

PR

  • Identify opportunities for press and media coverage
  • Build a press database and contacts for Govan HEL
  • Explore media partnerships with relevant outlets
  • Write and distribute press releases, as agreed with Executive team
  • Manage interviews, images and quotes requested by the media
  •  Identify and brief media spokespeople
  • Ensure funders and partners are acknowledged and quoted as required

Accessibility

  • Implement new accessibility measures for website
  • Create image descriptions for all images used online
  • Subtitle all video content, using Canva
  • Ensure all communications activity is accessible
  • Be aware of new and current best practice in accessibility

Additional activity, reporting and responsibilities

  • Devise, design and distribute new quarterly e-newsletter for local community
  • Explore quarterly e-newsletter for corporate supporters and stakeholders
  • Provide and respond to marketing data and audience insights
  • Support events and milestones with communications activity
  • Build and promote Govan HELP brand and lead on brand guidelines
  • Support the development of annual reviews and impact reports
  • Represent Govan HELP at events, networks and partnership meetings
  • Ensure all funder and partner communications requirements are met
  • Any other reasonable activity as requested by CEO or Head of Operation

Person Specification

Essential

  •  A minimum of two years’ experience working in a communications role
  • A commitment to Govan HELP’s vision, purpose and community
  • Proven understanding of engaging audiences across multiple platforms
  • Ability to write in an engaging, informative, and helpful manner
  • Knowledge of Canva, Squarespace, Meta, Mailchimp, LinkedIn and Microsoft Office, or similar
  • Experience of writing press releases and liaising with the media
  • Ability to manage and develop a brand, with a good eye for visual communication
  • Proven track record of implementing accessible marketing activity
  • Current knowledge of running social media channels, and engaging audiences online
  • Ability to work on own initiative and work collaboratively within a small team

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a third sector organisation
  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Experience of working with funders and corporate partners
