We have an exciting opportunity for someone with lived or living experience in problematic drug and/or alcohol use and mental health difficulties to join our Midlothian Community Mental Health and Wellbeing team. 

This post is commissioned by the Corra Foundation on behalf of the Scottish Government.

We are recruiting a Peer Support Worker to the deliver drop-in, one to one and group support to residents within hostel accommodation in Midlothian in partnership with the Midlothian Substance Use Team. You will have lived experience in either mental health, problematic drug or alcohol use and experience of delivering one to one and group support for people recovering from substance use and mental health difficulties. The successful applicant will use their own lived experience to engage with those facing substance use issues and mental health difficulties and as part of a team look to promote positive recovery pathways through 1:1 and groupwork, delivering an active Peer Support Service offering social, emotional and practical support.

Successful applicants will provide time-managed, outcome focused and strength-based one to one support, and deliver drop-ins and structured groups for residents of homeless accommodation/hostels in Midlothian who experience substance use, justice and mental health difficulties. The role will also require regular outreach work in community. You will work in a person centered and strength-based way appropriately using your lived experience to support others.

Experience of delivering one to one and group support is essential.

The successful applicant will work as part of the Recovery & Justice Support Team and the wider Midlothian Health in Mind Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Services team, and support the promotion of all Health in Mind services.
