Hours: 35 and 28 hours per week respectively. Pro rata salary for 28 hours £20,039
Closing 4 November 2025

Role

• Education Assistant – FT 35 hours per week – Salary £25,050

• Education Assistant – Evening Medical Updates – PT 28 hours per week - Salary £25,050 (£20,039 pro rata)

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is seeking to recruit two Education Assistants to join the College’s Department of Education, Training and Assessment.

With a worldwide reputation for educational excellence, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh exists to promote the highest standards of patient care. One of the ways we do this is through our programme of education to support doctors who are pursuing a career in medicine. We are looking for two assistants with excellent interpersonal and digital skills, who enjoy providing a high standard of customer service and who ‘go the extra mile’ to exceed internal and external customer expectations.

The Roles

These roles provide administrative support for education events. For example, you may support our programme of Evening Medical Updates, which are live-streamed to up to 150 live-link sites around the UK and abroad, and are accessed by over 1,000 delegates monthly, or support the delivery of our two-day flagship conference where we have delegates joining us in the College and online. The Education Assistants communicate with delegates and provide event registration, delivery, feedback survey, and Slido (interactive Q&A and voting system) support across all education events. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing a range of support services to assist the College’s Education Coordinators in the smooth running of RCPE Education events.

Although the two roles are largely the same there are a few differences:

• Education Assistant – FT 35 hours – this role will cover a wide range of different education events across the academic year in the range of 20-25 events, including multi-day courses and full-day symposia

• Education Assistant – Evening Medical Updates – PT 28 hours – this role will primarily focus on supporting the delivery of 11 annual Evening Medical Updates and associated live-link sites, alongside other events and the administration of the College’s podcast series

Both roles are permanent and will be based at the College in Queen Street, Edinburgh [although an element of hybrid working is possible]. Hours of work are 35 and 28 per week respectively, normally 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday inclusive. For the PT 0.8 post, the spread of hours across the week will be mutually agreed. There are regular occasions when it is necessary to work outside normal office hours in order to support educational events, and the need to travel on occasion, and a system of TOIL is in place to accommodate this.

The Person:

Education Assistants are enthusiastic self-starters with a positive attitude and an interest in education and event support. Good communication and IT skills are essential as well as meticulous attention to detail and the ability to process, store and analyse data accurately. With a large and varied education programme to support, candidates must be able to manage potentially conflicting priorities, remain calm under pressure, and be excellent team players.

Please refer to the person specification for each role.

Remuneration Package

The salary for these roles will be £25,050 per annum (pro rata for 28-hour role) plus benefits. Additional benefits include:

• Pension: with employer contributions of 9%.

• Holidays: 23 days’ annual leave (with incremental increase over five years to 28 days) and 11 days’ public holiday/College close downs (Pro-rata for the FT 0.8 role)

• Life assurance scheme

• Long-term income protection scheme for those unable to work due to illness.

• Cycle to Work scheme

• Discounted rates for use of the venue for personal events.
