For over 25 years, Parent Network Scotland (PNS) has championed a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach rooted in the belief that parents themselves hold the answers to many of the challenges they face. Key to this is meaningful approach is meeting parents where they are and fostering local networks of support. With the encouragement of trained parent facilitators and fellow parents, PNS creates safe, inclusive spaces that build confidence, connection, and resilience. Our peer-to-peer model is at the heart of everything we do. The PNS facilitator training programme is proven to be effective, significantly enhancing participants’ parenting knowledge and facilitation skills, and enabling them to become active contributors within their own communities.

The Role

Parent Network Scotland is now seeking an experienced and inspirational Family Engagement Lead to join and guide our dedicated team. This is a new and evolving role that will begin with delivery and community engagement and develop into a strategic leadership post as the programme grows; developing and overseeing a team of family engagement workers, strengthening partnerships, and driving forward our mission to support families’ health and wellbeing across Scotland.

As a key member of the core team, the Family Engagement Lead will combine strategic oversight with hands on community engagement, ensuring that PNS continues to respond effectively to the needs of parents and carers.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, proactive leader with strong management experience and a proven ability to engage diverse communities. You will possess excellent interpersonal skills, a track record of developing and leading teams, and experience in planning and delivering community-focused programmes.

This role requires flexibility and a commitment to occasional evening and weekend work.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of local and national family engagement activities
  • Support the recruitment, induction and ongoing development of staff and volunteers
  • Provide line management, supervision and encouragement to a growing team of Family Engagement Workers
  • Help develop and implement operational plans in line with PNS’s five-year strategy
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and trauma-informed working culture that supports staff wellbeing and learning

Programme Delivery & Planning

  • Design and coordinate inclusive events, activities and partnership pop-ups with families and professionals
  • Manage your own workload while supporting your team to meet shared goals and deadlines
  • Strengthen referral routes and access to services by distributing resource packs and building connections with local partners
  • Support the growth of peer-led parent networks to improve community connection and resilience

Partnerships & Relationship Building

  • Build and sustain positive relationships with local authorities, schools, community groups and other partners
  • Act as a key point of contact for engagement-related partnerships and collaborations
  • Build trust with parents, carers and community stakeholders, ensuring PNS is visible and valued in the places where families need support

Analysis, Reporting & Documentation

  • Monitor and evaluate community engagement work, using learning to adapt and improve delivery
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to clear, engaging reports for funders, colleagues and partners
  • Help demonstrate impact by measuring outcomes and sharing stories that show the difference our work makes

Strategic Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to develop new approaches to family engagement and community partnership
  • Promote a learning culture that values feedback, reflection and flexibility
  • Lead or contribute to initiatives that improve the quality and reach of PNS programmes

Line manager: Operations Lead for Scotland.

Team supervision: Line management of Family Engagement Workers  

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven leadership and line management experience within a community, social care, or educational setting.
  • Strong background in planning and delivering inclusive community-focused programmes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and motivate a team toward shared goals.
  • Commitment to PNS’s mission, values, and the wellbeing of families.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.

This is a newly created role. In the early stages, you’ll work independently to shape and deliver family engagement activities across Scotland. As the work grows, so too will your role — including leading and developing a wider team, informing strategy, and embedding engagement into Parent Network Scotland’s long-term vision
