Head of Finance and General Treasurer

- Advertised from 7 August 2025
Role
Shape the financial future of the Church of Scotland: one of Scotland’s most significant charities.
The Church of Scotland is seeking a strategic, values-driven finance leader to join as Head of Finance and General Treasurer. This is a rare and high-profile opportunity to lead financial strategy and stewardship for a national organisation, playing a pivotal role in how the Church delivers its mission across Scotland and beyond.
You’ll be a key member of the senior leadership team, advising the Assembly Trustees and Chief Officer while overseeing a 26-strong finance and stewardship team. From CrossReach and congregational giving, to pensions and property, the scope of this role is broad and meaningful. You will lead financial governance, budgeting, reporting, audit, and risk across both the central church and related entities, ensuring best practice and innovation in service of our Christian values.
We’re looking for an exceptional CCAB-qualified finance professional with:
- A strong track record of senior financial leadership in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment;
- Experience preparing SORP-compliant charity accounts and managing risk;
- Excellent leadership, communication and relationship-building skills;
- A passion for using financial strategy to support people, communities, and long-term impact.
You’ll be a strategic thinker with integrity, empathy and the gravitas to engage across the Church. An understanding of the Church of Scotland’s mission and structures is advantageous, but not essential, more important is your commitment to our values and purpose.
