Role

For transparency, the current funding cycle runs until March 2026, at which point the service will be re-tendered. The Carers Centre has been operating since 2002, and while we do not anticipate any disruption to the contract, ongoing employment is dependent on the outcome of future funding arrangements. 

Location: East Renfrewshire Carers Centre, Sandler Cottage, Eastwood Park, Rouken Glen Rd, Giffnock. Outreach work within East Renfrewshire and occasional home working required.

Main Purpose of the Job: The Adult Carers Information and Development Worker will provide practical and emotional support to adult carers on both an individual and group basis. The role involves identifying support needs, working with partner agencies, and aiding carers in their caring roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver activities to raise awareness of carers and their rights.
  • Identify, engage, and provide carers with information, advice, and support tailored to their needs.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to ensure comprehensive support for carers.
  • Organise and facilitate support groups and workshops for carers.
  • Conduct outreach work to identify and support hidden carers within the community.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on activities and outcomes.
  • Advocate for carers' rights and needs within the community and with local authorities.

Person Specification:

  • Experience in a similar role or working with carers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of carers' rights and relevant legislation.
  • Proficiency in using IT systems and maintaining accurate records.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for outreach work.
  • Qualifications:
  • A relevant qualification in health and social care, such as an NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Additional training or certification in counselling, social work, or community development can be advantageous.
