Role

Court, the University’s governing body is responsible for the strategic direction, institutional values and overall sustainability, ensuring we achieve our mission through strong leadership and governance. The University is seeking to appoint new Lay Members of Court and expressions of interest are sought from individuals with a strong commitment to the principles of corporate governance, and with significant leadership and/or board level experience preferably gained from working within an organisation of comparable size and complexity to the University.

The University of Stirling is an international university with a pioneering spirit and a place where ability, not background, is valued. We have a global reputation for high quality teaching and research which positively impacts communities across the globe – addressing real issues, providing solutions and helping to shape society. Our community of students (17,500+), staff (1,800) and alumni (110,000+) is helping to shape the world. With more than 140 nationalities represented on campus, we are a global university of distinction and an employer of choice.

This is an excellent time to be joining Court. The University has built a strong foundation from which to deliver our next Strategic Plan towards 2030, and we are confident that it will enable us to continue delivering on our ambition to be the difference.

The candidate should have:

  • A track record as a successful leader and/or board member with executive/non-executive director experience ideally gained from working within an organisation of comparable size or complexity to the University.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to establish good working relationships with other members of Court and the University’s senior management team.
  • An understanding of the Higher Education sector and political awareness.
  • A strong commitment to the principles of good governance including integrity, transparency and impartiality.

We recognise that diversity enriches the work, learning and research experiences of our entire campus and community, and we encourage applications from suitably experienced individuals that reflect the breadth and diversity of the communities we serve. We welcome expressions of interest from people with protected characteristics, currently underrepresented on Court.
