Role

Sikh Sanjog, the charity committed to improving lives of ethnic minority women in Scotland, is seeking a Director of Operations. You will be passionate about leading Sikh Sanjog into a new phase and seamlessly taking over the reins from our founder Trishna Singh OBE, who has tirelessly led the organisation since its inception 35 years ago.

The successful candidate will lead and direct all our community supportive services ensuring that day-to-day management across the organisation is effectively delivered; that all service activities are effectively integrated and delivered in line with the Board of Trustees’ strategy, operational plans and values of Sikh Sanjog.

Essential knowledge and experience

  • Degree or equivalent in community development, health or social care
  • Significant experience of working at management level in the community development and social care field
  • Knowledge and understanding of all current health and social care legislation
  • Knowledge and understanding of the regulatory framework and compliance requirements in human rights, equalities, and care/protection of children and young people
  • Experience of managing the delivery of support to people with complex needs, and direct engagement with people and families to inform how support is delivered
  • In-depth understanding of issues facing diverse minority ethnic communities living in the UK, with reference to Scotland and knowledge of Sikh culture and communities
  • Credibility with local and national government agencies supporting social services within the third sector
  • Track record of effective people management skills
  • Skilled in operational management including management of key performance metrics and working with financial reports
  • Experience of developing the business case for capital spend and fundraising on behalf of the organisation

  • Track record of engaging, motivating and leading staff and colleagues to deliver organisational goals
  • Ability to grow team members through motivational personal development programmes, acting as a role mode
  • Ability to question, challenge and encourage different and creative ways of thinking, and leading continuous improvement through review of processes and procedures
  • Great communicator: confident addressing a range of audiences and in the delivery of well-written documentation
  • Evidence of continued professional development relevant to this role
  • Self- awareness; ability to assess own impact on others at all levels of the organisation including the Board of Trustees
  • Strong networking skills with external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, local government and funding bodies important for credibility and reputation as the face and ambassador of Sikh Sanjog in the future
