Trustee

The Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre
Management Board
On site: Glasgow
Closing 16 June 2025
Advertised from 15 May 2025

Role

The Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre (SJHC) is seeking a new independent trustee to join its Board. The SJHC is a SCIO based in Garnethill Synagogue in Glasgow. It was created in partnership by The Scottish Jewish Archives Centre (SJAC) and Garnethill Synagogue Preservation Trust (GSPT) working alongside Garnethill Hebrew Congregation: https://sjhc.org.uk/who-we-are/. The SJHC runs public tours, events, and visits for primary and secondary schools, using the historic building of Garnethill Synagogue and archive collections to support learning about Judaism, migration, refugees and the Holocaust. Its aims are to:

  • Increase access to Scotland’s Jewish and Holocaust-era history.
  • Encourage wider and more diverse engagement with SJAC’S collections
  • Expand access to Garnethill Synagogue and its heritage
  • Make a lasting difference to the welfare of the heritage, the people involved, the local community and beyond.

The SJHC Board is made up of nine trustees: three from each of the two partner organisations, SJAC and GSPT, and three independents. For this role, we are particularly keen to hear from people with experience of museum and heritage education, and individuals with teaching experience.

No previous experience of being on a Board is required.

What’s Involved

The Board meets every 2 months in Glasgow. Trustees support the work of the SCIO, attend Board meetings to oversee its smooth running, make key decisions, and advise on the development of the organisation. Attendance via Zoom is also possible. This is an unpaid role.
