Community Outreach Worker

On site: ACE IT office at 25 Nicolson Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9BX plus significant travel to our outreach locations across Edinburgh
£12.61 per hour. 21 hours per week 9am to 4.30pm over 3 days ideally Tuesday to Thursday. Travel expenses outside of daily commute reimbursed.

Role

ACE IT Scotland exists to advance the knowledge and connectivity of people over-50 in Edinburgh. Through digital skills coaching projects delivered across Edinburgh to improve the wellbeing and independence of older people.

To meet the ever increasing demand for our support, we are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and caring person to help develop and oversee our community outreach work throughout Edinburgh.

We have a team of dedicated volunteers who work with older people at various community-based settings across the city. Your job is to ensure these projects run smoothly and that our volunteers are supported to deliver the highest standard of service to our learners. This will involve travelling within Edinburgh most days to our services, which currently include locations in both Portobello and Currie.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support volunteers working in ACE IT outreach projects within partner locations and at the ACE IT office
  • Meet and greet learners as they arrive, we aim to make them feel welcome and reduce anxieties
  • Setup coaching delivery areas, welcome service users, oversee delivery of sessions, arrange appointments, prepare equipment e.g. charge & update digital devices
  • Liaise with individual venue management regarding room setup and access
  • Offer support to members of the public and volunteers on the use of digital devices and online services
  • Work with other staff to identify opportunities for improvement and growth across our services
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on the three projects, to include - gathering feedback forms, monitoring attendance and creating occasional case studies to give an understanding of the impact our services are having on the learner and what lessons can be learned
  • Liaise with external stakeholders to optimise the number of learners accessing our services
  • Keep an inventory of all equipment and troubleshoot any equipment problems
  • Promote ACE IT e.g. displaying marketing materials
  • Undertake any appropriate tasks delegated by ACE IT Scotland Manager

Person Specification

We empower ACE IT leaners to build confidence to help themselves, achieve their potential and live with more independence. You must believe in this ethos.

Essential

  • The ability to travel across Edinburgh is vital for this role
  • Good digital skills, including demonstrable experience of MS Teams, Office and knowledge of Apple, Windows and Android systems. These are the systems most used by our learners
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills. You must be good with people, patient and compassionate
  • Experience and understanding of older people’s needs, including those who have vulnerabilities
  • Understanding the importance of confidentiality and safeguarding
  • Reliable and well organised

Desirable but not essential

  • Experience of working with older people
  • Experience of the charitable sector and working with volunteers
  • Full driving license and/or own transport
  • Knowledge of client management systems (we use AirTable)
  • Have an awareness of specialist services in Edinburgh for signposting
