Trustee

The Anchor SCIO
Management Board
On site: Greenock
Closing

Help shape the future of a community charity working to prevent suicide and improve mental health and wellbeing across Inverclyde. We are seeking trustees who can bring sound judgement, useful experience and a commitment to the people and communities we support. The Anchor SCIO, formerly Man On! Inverclyde, was founded in 2020. Our work is rooted in relationships, lived experience and accessible community support. We support children, young people, adults and families, creating opportunities for people to connect, build trust and find help. Our direction is Hope Before Crisis: reaching people earlier, strengthening trusted relationships and building support around everyday life. Relational practice, a trauma-responsive approach and children’s rights inform how we work. We want a balanced and effective Board whose collective skills and perspectives complement those of our existing Office Bearers and Trustees, CEO and Senior Management Team. New trustees will help scrutinise decisions, strengthen oversight and guide the charity’s development and sustainability. We particularly welcome experience in one or more of the following areas. You do not need expertise in all five. Human resources and people management Employment practice, organisational culture, workforce development and people-related risk, helping ensure staff and volunteers are supported and treated fairly. Digital and technology Effective use of digital systems, data and technology, with appropriate Board oversight of information governance, data protection and cyber risk. Communications and marketing Strategic communications, organisational profile and stakeholder engagement, helping The Anchor communicate its work and impact clearly and responsibly. Risk management and governance Scrutiny of strategic, operational, financial and reputational risks, including the controls, assurance and reporting needed to manage them. Local knowledge and community connections Understanding of Inverclyde’s communities and connections with local partners, services and networks, bringing community perspectives into Board decisions. We welcome people of different genders, ages, professional backgrounds and life experiences. Lived experience and local knowledge are valued alongside professional expertise. Previous trustee experience is not essential. We are looking for people who will listen, contribute and learn. Trustees share responsibility for governance and strategic direction. The CEO and Senior Management Team lead day-to-day delivery. Every trustee contributes to the Board’s collective decisions and responsibilities. Help set and review the charity’s strategy, priorities and longer-term sustainability, ensuring decisions reflect its charitable purposes and the needs of the people it supports. Review finances, budgets, performance and impact, ask constructive questions and help ensure resources are used responsibly. Scrutinise risk, safeguarding, employment practice, information governance and other areas of compliance, seeking appropriate evidence and assurance. Support and constructively challenge the CEO and Senior Management Team, respecting the boundaries between governance and operational management. Bring your perspective and skills to discussions, contribute to agreed Board activity and help strengthen relationships and the charity’s reputation. You should share our commitment to suicide prevention, mental health and community wellbeing. You will need to listen respectfully, consider different perspectives, exercise independent judgement and be willing to ask questions, including when decisions are difficult. Trustees must act in the charity’s interests, ensure it operates consistently with its purposes, and exercise care and diligence. You must declare and appropriately manage conflicts of interest, maintain confidentiality and work within the governing document and relevant legal requirements. Appointment is subject to eligibility checks and completion of the trustee declaration. Location and status: Inverclyde. This is a voluntary, unpaid governance role. Any expenses will be handled in line with the charity’s policy. Meetings: Quarterly board meetings with a sub-committee group prior to each meeting. Trustees should prepare by reading papers and attend regularly. Between meetings: Allow time for induction, development and agreed Board tasks. Any additional responsibilities will be discussed before appointment. The appointment term will follow the governing document. New trustees will receive an induction covering the charity’s work, governing document, finances, key policies and trustee responsibilities. Ongoing development and succession planning will support new and existing trustees to contribute effectively as the organisation evolves.

Closing

The Scottish International Education Trust is seeking to appoint two new trustees at an exciting time in the charity’s history. The trust has been helping remarkable young Scots fulfill their potential for over half a century. The trustees recently committed to an extensive programme of fundraising to ensure we continue to fulfil our mission for many years to come. We are looking for new trustees whose energy, insights and commitment to the transformative power of international education can help us build for the next fifty years. SIET makes grants of up to £3,000, typically to those seeking to pursue postgraduate education overseas. The awards are targeted at those who might otherwise struggle to afford opportunities that allow them to achieve their potential. However, we know from long experience that awards provide more than just financial assistance. In the words of one recent recipient: “The award has been, for me personally, much more than just financial help. It was a really huge confidence boost to know that someone believed in me." We are particularly keen to receive applications from former recipients of our awards, those who can help the board more accurately reflect the communities it seeks to serve, and those who have particular insights in fundraising, communications, charitable governance, widening access in higher education, or developing networks of alumni or similar stakeholders.

Antonine Theatre Group
Management Board
Hybrid: Bishopbriggs
Closing

Theatre gives people somewhere to escape, to laugh, to be moved, and sometimes to explore things that are difficult to talk about anywhere else. We think communities should have places where that can happen. At the Antonine Theatre Group (ATG), we have one of those places: The Fort Theatre in Bishopbriggs, just one stop from Glasgow Queen Street by train. We're an amateur theatre company run entirely by volunteers, with something relatively unusual: our own theatre. We produce several shows each year, while also looking after and developing the venue that makes them possible. This year, our programme has included Bull by Mike Bartlett, Chatroom by Enda Walsh, God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza and 2:22: A Ghost Story by Danny Robins, alongside our annual Christmas pantomime, Hansel & Gretel. So, as you might gather, we're not afraid of a bit of variety. We're now looking for new volunteer trustees who can bring professional or creative expertise to ATG and help us shape what The Fort becomes next. First, an important point: we're not looking for one miraculous person who can do all the things below. We're looking for several people, each bringing skills or experience in any one of these areas. If you recognise yourself in one of them, we'd like to hear from you. Finance and accountancy - You might be an accountant, finance professional or someone with experience of budgets, financial reporting, financial controls and longer-term financial planning. If a reconciled spreadsheet gives you quiet satisfaction, you'll fit right in. Fundraising and income development - You might have experience of fundraising strategy, grant applications, trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships or developing new sources of charitable and earned income. Governance and organisational development - You might have experience as a company or board secretary, in charity governance, developing policies and procedures, or establishing a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). We're seeking to become a SCIO, and we're particularly interested in someone who can help us strengthen our governance and support that transition as ATG develops. Theatre and the creative industries - You might bring dramaturgical or other professional creative experience, a strong understanding of stagecraft and theatre-making, or established networks across theatre and the wider creative industries in Scotland. We're looking for someone who can bring a wider creative perspective into the room and help us think ambitiously about the work we put on our stage. Theatre technology - We're interested in people with a strong understanding of modern theatre technology who'd be excited by the opportunity to help modernise a working community theatre. You might already work professionally in the sector, be studying technical theatre or theatre production, or have developed practical experience in lighting, sound or video elsewhere. This isn't a trustee role where you turn up six times a year, read the papers, say something sensible about risk and disappear again. ATG has no paid staff, so our trustees are hands-on. You'll help shape the organisation's direction and use your particular expertise to help make things happen. The Management Committee meets around six times a year, and we'd normally ask trustees to be able to contribute around two hours a week outside those meetings. You'll be helping to run a charity with its own theatre, an active programme of productions, finances, licences, members and volunteers. There are real responsibilities involved, but also a genuine opportunity to influence what a small cultural organisation and its theatre become over the coming years. This is perhaps the unusual bit. You won't just be joining a board. You'll be joining a theatre company and a creative community. If you want to, you can audition for a play, direct a production, work backstage, design lighting or sound, build a set, help choose future productions, or learn something you've never tried before. You'll meet people who share an interest in theatre and, we hope, make some friends along the way. No previous performing experience is required. None of that is compulsory. If you'd prefer to contribute your expertise as a trustee and watch the shows from the audience, that's absolutely fine. But we think there's something fairly special about being able to serve on the board of a theatre on Thursday and find yourself rehearsing on its stage on Monday. You don't need previous trustee experience, and you don't need a background in amateur theatre. What we're looking for is relevant skills or experience in at least one of the five areas above, sound judgement, and an interest in helping a volunteer-run theatre thrive.
