AWAZ FM is a voluntary non-profit organisation originally founded in 1996, Awaz FM first came on air in 1997 as a small community radio service broadcasting on Restricted Services Licence to deliver a radio service for the asian community. In 2014 Awaz FM set up a separate charity arm called Awaz- The voice of the community The organisation was able to get funding from Climate Challenge Fund to set up Community Swap Shop. The idea was to give an opportunity where members of South Asian communities can reduce their Co2 emission by reducing the amount of clothing and cds going to landfills.
